Each Friday we post one new writing prompt created by a Sarabande author. Prompts like this one are included in our online Reader's Guides along with discussion questions and suggested reading to accompany each title. So if you can't wait a week for the next prompt, visit our Reader's Guide page to find them all in one place!
This week's prompt comes from Sallie Bingham, author of The Blue Box.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Imagine a day in the life of your grandmother or grandmother, beginning in childhood; find their birthdates, look at photographs if possible, and research what was going on at the time in their town, their state and their country. For example, was your grandmother able to vote when she turned eighteen? If not, would it have mattered to her? Did your grandfather serve in World War Two, Korea or Vietnam? This exercise does not depend on an interview.
