"MY DREAM WAS MADE A REALITY BECAUSE OF FUNDING FROM THE NEA AND A HUGE LEAP OF FAITH FROM SARABANDE." —Shawn Wen
For more than twenty years Sarabande has received generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts in support of our publishing and educational programming. Each year, a handful of our titles receive special, earmarked funding from the NEA. This year, A Twenty Minute Silence Followed by Applause will be one of those titles. Here's author Shawn Wen on publishing with Sarabande:
“We are used to living in a world with access to music, literature, movies, arts programs, and museums. A world where a girl—an immigrant, a person of color—who dreams of becoming a writer can grow up and watch her book come out. My dream was made a reality because of funding from the NEA and a huge leap of faith from Sarabande.
“I think the full impact of the NEA is invisible to us, because in fact it reaches into so many facets of our lives. From public school students to moviegoers, we all benefit from the NEA. Right now, we face the very real risk of becoming a society where the arts are available only to the wealthy.”
