"I doubt my books would be in the world without Sarabande’s ethos, position, and stewardship." —Elena Passarello
For more than twenty years Sarabande has received generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts in support of our publishing and educational programming. Each year, a handful of our titles receive special, earmarked funding from the NEA. This year, Animals Strike Curious Poses was one of those titles. Here's author Elena Passarello on publishing with Sarabande:
"None of the essays I’m proudest of would exist without Sarabande’s particular way of finding, nurturing, and promoting the essay. Sarabande helped me—and still helps me—understand what I write and how it belongs in the world. Indeed, I doubt my books would be in the world without Sarabande’s ethos, position, and stewardship. There simply aren’t many places for essays like mine to go, despite the fact that said world seems to welcome them once they arrive. Sarabande’s foresight, promotional skill, and careful guidance are what I’m most grateful for. All this is why I’m a repeat-offender Sarabande author, and I think my story illustrates what makes them so worthy of support from national organizations like the NEA."
